About us
In 2010 Time for Kids celebrated its 50th anniversary – 50 years of providing care and support for disadvantaged children in South Australian. Since 1960 the organisation has cared for and strengthened the lives of more than 4600 children and their families. Time for Kids has demonstrated that its model of early intervention with respite care and family support services enables children in need to overcome their disadvantage.
We match children from birth to 17 years with volunteer families and individuals for mentoring and regular part time care, usually for one weekend a month, one day per month or for 3-4 days during school holidays. The mentoring and support is designed to lead the children, as they grow older, away from the risks of incarceration, drug and alcohol abuse, homelessness, youth offending and dropping out of education. It is a remarkable achievement that not one of these children has appeared in the state’s youth court while on our program.
In recognition of this achievement Time for Kids was the South Australian winner of the 2009 Australian Crime and Violence Prevention Award presented by the Australian Institute of Criminology at a ceremony at Parliament House, Canberra.
