Our History
Time for Kids was founded in 1960 by Stipendiary Magistrate, William Scales, who was then in charge of the Adelaide Juvenile Court. He was concerned about the welfare of the children who appeared before him, most of whom had little or no family support. He and his wife, Betty, started the Society of Sponsors by developing a network of volunteer families who welcomed children into their homes on a regular basis. Since 1960, more than 4500 children have been cared for, nurtured and encouraged by our volunteers throughout metropolitan and regional South Australia. Until early 2004, we were known as SOS Families for Children, but we are now registered throughout Australia as Time for Kids Inc. We are a registered charity and a licensed foster care agency administered by a volunteer Board. We celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2010.
